Up to 90 percent of goods on eBay are counterfeit: ACG

The Anti-Counterfeiting Group, a UK based industry group, released a new publication this month entitled ‘The Scale of Counterfeiting” (Path: Latest News).

Highlights:

ACG members conducted a survey of eBay for one day in the summer of 2006. As reported to the Office of Fair Trading’s market study on Internet shopping - which included auction sites - up to 90% of goods in eBay auctions are routinely identified by the genuine brand owner as fake.

The report also stated that the counterfeit goods market in the United Kingdom is £11billion, the same amount that is currently listed for the UK on the Havocscope Counterfeit Index.
